Ogun Inaugurates 32 Sports Associations

The Ogun State Government on Tuesday inaugurated thirty-two sports associations in its drive to strengthen its various sports associations and encourage excellence in performance as next National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in November is fast approaching, .

AfricanOutlookonline reports that, the inauguration was held at Obas Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital, supervised and conducted by the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Prince Lanre Tejuoso, assisted by Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Sports, Hon Femi Allen-Taylor, the Ministry Permanent Secretary, Mrs Moyo Olowomi and Director of Sports, Adesola Faleti.

 

The Sports Commissioner in his inauguration speech, called on members to dedicate commitment to move sports in the state to higher level, adding that Ogun State youths must be convinced that sporting activities are not meant for school drop outs, rather is a sure avenue to building a career,fame and personal economic well-being.

 

Speaking further Tejuoso also noted that it is expected of every association to market its games and look for sponsorship for its development, stressing that each association is charged with the responsibility of staging state championships at least twice in a year. According to him, all associations will be measured by the performances of their state teams at nationally organised competitions, just as he equally noted that government alone cannot face all the challenges in the development of sports.

 

His words, "Hence, it is imperative to invite all sports loving veterans and philanthropists and well meaning people of the state to partner with the government in this laudable program. We must therefore dedicate our commitment to move sports in Ogun State to higher level."

 

Tejuoso expressed appreciation to the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for his enormous support towards the successful inauguration of the sports associations, as well as appreciating members of the various associations for honouring the call to serve the state in the development of sports.

 

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of Chairmen of the various sports associations, Adewunmi Adefolu assured of the commitment of all members towards the growth of sports in the state.
