Nigerian Psychiatric Nurses in Diaspora Partner With Latin Foundation on Health Care Delivery

A U. S. -based Charity organisation, International Association of Psychiatric Nurses of Nigeria (IAPNN) has revealed that it has concluded arrangements on its plans to partner with Mr Latin Foundation towards promotion of health and well-being of the society at large.

The Association made the disclosure in a letter signed by its General Secretary, Charles Oguntade, noting that the body has been following with kin interest the involvement of the foundation in promoting the health and well-being of the society at large, "and most importantly your proposed establishment of drug rehabilitation centre for individuals with drug related problems."

 

The association comprising of Nigerian Psychiatric Nurses worldwide added that, having been impressed with Amusan's concern in addressing the drug menace within the society has therefore resolved to support the foundation. It further explained that guided by principle of self-determination, "we are united actively to pursue a positive focus to improve all facets of mental health care services in Africa."

 

The letter emphasised: "Our goal is to positively impact upon mental health of mother Africa with possible effect upon the mental health of Black communities across the globe. The association is designed to support quality delivery of care and services, improvement and innovation in mental health care services in Africa."

 

The scribe, in the letter, further explained that, the association is growing from a handful of professionals into a global organization of over 2000 members worldwide, adding that it was founded in London in August 2003 by a number of Registered Nigerian Psychiatric Nurses.

 

"This group later visited Houston, Texas, in the United States in November 2003 to initiate strategies to liaise with colleagues across the world and develop the modus operandi to achieve the goals of the association," Oguntade stated.

 

However, it will be recalled that Mr Latin Foundation an initiative of the famous comedian, Otunba Bolaji Amusan has established a rehabilitation centre in Abeokuta to cater for the needs of drug addicts in the society.

 

Meanwhile, in a related development, the association said it has concluded arrangements to confer award of Excellence In Community Leadership In Mental Health Promotion on Amusan at its next annual conference slated to hold in New Jersey, USA between May 28th - 30th 2014.

 

"It has been our practice in the last 10 years of our existence to offer award of excellence to individuals and groups who have contributed positive mark in health promotion at our dinner night," the statement stressed.
