Ogun Police Detain Fake Customs Officers

 

Three fake Nigerian Customs Officers, whose stock in trade is impounding people’s cars, at various illegal customs points on daily basis have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command.

The suspects were paraded on Thursday at Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, facilities in Abeokuta, as the Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye said the suspects habitually mounted their illegal check points at the Ibafo end of the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway in full customs uniform with accoutrements, and have seized more than 30 vehicles from various individuals including security agents.

 

The Police boss said the suspects met their waterloo on 28th September in Akure, Ondo State Capital while transacting business, giving their identities as include: Brilliant Oruaro, 29, of Bayelsa State, Ajayi Jemibewon, 23, from Ekiti State and Farotimi Sunday, 21, of Ado Ekiti.

 

Okoye also informed newsmen that, with these tricks, they (suspects) have been robbing people of their cars and belongings and selling the stolen cars and other loots to innocent people under pretense.

 

According to the Commissioner , the ring leader, Brilliant, has a pending trial in Magistrate Court 3 Otta for similar case of forgery of Customs documents, revealing further that, he has a car stand in Akure, Ondo State where some of the vehicles were recovered with two locally made double barreled guns, customs uniforms, identity cards and life cartridges. He said, the Police have recovered more than 11(eleven) cars from the syndicate and efforts are on to recover the rest.

 

In a related development, the Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Command has arrested the major notorious cultist, Femi Kuti, 33, who has been terrorizing the state for various killings in Ijebu Ode area and Ogun State in general.

 

The command while parading the suspect said he is an indigene of Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, who was rusticated from The Tai Solarin College of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State some years back.

 

The police said the suspect was arrested on Monday 6th October at a spot opposite the Ijebu Ode Local Government Secretariat at about 6:30pm in the midst of his colleague cultists, numbering about 100, where the police met a heavy resistance while attempting to effect his arrest which led to exchange of fire, resulting in his sustenance of serious injury from police bullets before he was eventually taken away by the SARS men.
